Why Join Us?

BERA has established a reputation for being knowledgeable, informed and reasonable – so often successful in gaining agreement in a way that serves the community as a whole.

VOICE YOUR CONCERNS

Being a member of BERA means that you are not on your own when it comes to local matters. We have learned that if an issue is raised by BERA on behalf of an individual or group or indeed the membership as a whole – that it will more often result in response and action than if tabled by the individual alone. This has applied to planning and licensing initiatives as well as more regularly occurring topics relating to such things as public realm.

COMMUNICATION

BERA provides a two-way channel for communication – for items to be raised as explained above – but also for key local information to be quickly and effectively shared with members. BERA will build on improving this information flow as it broadens and strengthens its network of organisational contacts within and nearby the Chester City walls.

COMMUNITY

BERA has also started to build the social and community aspects of its activities. Indeed, prior to COVID19, BERA had organised a number of social events (e.g. quizzes and a canal dinner trip and a local street clean). Now that COVID19 restrictions have been lifted, we will organise more social events, which will be posted on the website and also emailed to all members

Membership costs £6 per person per year – which gives access to and supports the above initiatives and capabilities. It also gives access to the member area of the BERA website – containing additional information including minutes of all BERA Executive meetings. Members also have the opportunity to stand for election to the Exec – allowing greater input and influence on how BERA approaches the issues that members ask it to tackle on their behalf.

All persons aged eighteen and over living within the community area and individuals (not companies) owning residential properties within the community area shall be entitled to attend meetings of the Association, and on payment of a small annual subscription be a member of the Association
