Chester City Centre Policing Update 11th January 2026

Good evening,

Firstly, Happy New Year. I hope you all had a good Christmas.

As discussed in my previous update, we carried out a range of activities throughout December and it was fantastic to see the City so busy. As we start the new year I am keen to continue with the proactive activity we have been carrying out to deal with crime and anti social behaviour. I want to ensure that the City is safe and secure, where businesses are successful, visitors feel welcome, and residents are proud to call home. We have an excellent partnership network which is demonstrated by some of the results that have been achieved and interventions that take place. The partnership network that is in place in the City is something that is always commented upon favourably when we have visitors to the area to observe the work being done in Chester. I am looking forward for this to continue in 2026. I have numerous activities and operations planned throughout the year, and we also have the flexibility to respond to issues that arise.

In respect of this last week, we have seen lower demand than we saw in December, as usually is the case after Christmas but we want to ensure we are on the front foot and prevent problems arising. High visibility patrols continued to be carried out by the City Team, with the continuing support of our wider Western Area Teams such as Response and the Problem Solving Team, but also Forcewide resources in the form of Armed Response Vehicles and the Roads Crime Unit.

We carried out a plain clothes operation, where a number of areas were targeted. This resulted in several stop searches being carried out, some of which were positive. Such operations create a climate of concern amongst criminals, as when they operate they become unsure of plain clothes officers are operating in the area which can act as a significant deterrent.

We also carried out a proactive operation in conjunction with Trading Standards and the Fire Service, targeting individuals involved in the supply of illegal cigarettes. This resulted in items being seized and positive action being taken. We regularly work with other enforcement agencies such as Trading Standards, Licensing and the Fire Service, to tackle a range of activities. Such operations have a direct impact on other areas of criminality and anti social behaviour that takes place in the City and will continue throughout the year.

We continue to place updates on the work we are doing on our Social Media accounts. If you are on Facebook please follow us. On our Chester Police page we report on the activity we’re carrying out and have appeals for information relating to incidents that have taken place.

We utilise Residents Voice to identify the issues that are causing the public concern. As the survey is anonymous we try to feedback on social media the work we are doing to dela with these issues. Please continue to complete these surveys. Whilst it is called a Residents Voice survey, it is equally important we hear from those who work in the City, so this is open to everyone to complete. If you have completed it before, please complete it on a regular basis so we are kept up to date with the current issues that are causing concern.

The link to the survey is below, and should only take a few minutes to complete.
