Chester City Centre Policing Update 21st July 2025

Good morning,

In addition to the ongoing Operation Momentum in the City, we have carried out several other operations this week.

Operation Interventions is an operation to target the illegal use of E Bikes in the City. This involved a number of vehicles being stopped and checked and resulted in the seizure of two bikes. We also carried at a search warrant at an address where the riders of a bike that had previously failed to stop for police lived. This resulted in another seizure. We are keen to send out a message that the misuse of these bikes will not be tolerated in Chester. We have several more of these operations planned, in addition to day to day enforcement of offences whilst officers are on patrol.

On Wednesday we carried out Operation Embattle in Brook  Street. This involved units from across the force, including Chester Beat Team, Western Exploitation Team, Foreign National Offender Officers, and the Bike Unit, along with HMRC, Trading Standards, Immigration, DWP, Cheshire Fire and Rescue, plus Local Authority Food Hygiene and Parking Services. A total of 16 premises, including shops, restaurants and public houses, were visited in the street with all the agencies carrying out inspections. This resulted in a number of illegal cigarettes and vapes being seized and immigration statuses being checked. Follow-up visits will be undertaken by partner agencies. While the visits were taking place, the Bike Unit carried out a number of stop checks and enforcement activity in relation to delivery drivers and riders in the area to ensure they were observing regulations. Two TORs (Traffic Offence Reports) were issued. Local Authority Parking Services also deployed to enforce the parking restrictions in the street. The presence of all the agencies working together had a significant disruptive effect and sent out a clear message to anyone engaged in crime that Cheshire Police works with a range of agencies to target any criminality or failure to follow regulations. It also provided an opportunity for officers to build relationships with other agencies, as well as the businesses in the area.

We have carried out a Pop Up police station in the City and will continue to deploy such engagement activity in order to speak to those who live, work and visit the City Centre

We continue to place updates on the work we are doing on our Social Media accounts. If you are on Facebook please follow us. On our Chester Police page we report on the activity we’re carrying out and have appeals for information relating to incidents that have taken place.

We utilise Residents Voice to identify the issues that are causing the public concern. As the survey is anonymous we try to feedback on social media the work we are doing to dela with these issues. Please continue to complete these surveys. Whilst it is called a Residents Voice survey, it is equally important we hear from those who work in the City, so this is open to everyone to complete. If you have completed it before, please complete it on a regular basis so we are kept up to date with the current issues that are causing concern.

The link to the survey is below, and should only take a few minutes to complete.
