Good evening,
This week there has been a focus on vulnerability and exploitation, under a forcewide initiative called Operation Guardians. A wide range of activities have been carried out across the force. In Chester we have been visiting both domestic abuse victims and offenders to prevent further offending, whilst ensuring the safety of victim’s and their family. We have also been visiting schools to educate the children about the risks of exploitation, as well as providing a visible presence at the start and end of school. Officers have patrolled areas where young people frequent in the City, to provide a visible presence. We have also visited a number of hotels in the City to explain to the staff signs that they need to look out for that could indicate a child is being taken to the hotel to be exploited. It was great to hear that many of the hotels already carry out such training for their staff.
On Saturday night an operation was carried out to ensure that Taxi drivers are abiding by their regulations which ensures the safety of people using the taxis and other road users. This operation was carried out with the support of the Special Constabulary along with Taxi Licensing Teams from both Cheshire West and Chester Local Authority and Wolverhampton Authority. This involved patrolling with the Licensing Officers, to carry out stop checks of taxis operating in the Chester area. This operation was designed to check those operating during the Night Time Economy. We have carried a number of these operations both day and night, and they have a significant impact on compliance with taxi regulations.
In relation to wider crime and disorder we have issued several Community Protection Warnings in relation to individuals who have been causing anti social behaviour in the City. This is the first stage to try to get them to stop this behaviour, and often is effective. If it isn’t we will gather evidence with a view to issuing a Community Protection Notice or Criminal Behaviour Order, if criminal offences are committed. Something I repeat is the importance of reporting issues to us, so we can gather the evidence to deal with this poor behaviour. The success we have had with many people has been as a result of information and evidence that has been provided by the public. We will continue to use all the powers and tactics at our disposal to dela with crime and anti social behaviour in the City.
The week we have also successfully secured a Closure Order for a business in City. The order, granted on Wednesday 25th February, following concerns raised about criminal activity taking place at the properties. To prevent any further offending, the Closure Order means that the properties on Frodsham Street, Chester, which consists of two adjoining shops, will remain shut for a period of three months. Anyone who enters either retailer while the order is in place could face a significant fine or even a prison sentence. Such orders again, demonstrating that we listen to concerns of the public and take action.
As I say above I am really keen for people to report issues to us so we can deal with them or gather evidence to take action. The following are the methods you can contact Cheshire Police;

Crimestoppers
Sometimes people may want to pass information about criminality and may want to stay anonymous. A way this can be done is through Crimestoppers. Crimestoppers is an independent charity that gives people the power to speak up to stop crime, 100% anonymously. Whoever you are, wherever you live, from communities to companies. This information can be passed by phone and online, 24/7, 365 days a year. Crimestoppers also share advice on how to protect the people you care about from crime, so everyone can feel safe.
After receiving your call or a completed anonymous online form, they create a report that brings together all the information that is provided to them, making sure it doesn’t contain any information that could identify the informant. The report is sent to the relevant authority with the legal responsibility to investigate crimes, make arrests and charge people in order to bring them to justice. This could be the local police force or an agency such as the UK Border Agency or HM Revenue & Customs.Information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers online Giving information anonymously | Crimestoppers or by ringing 0800 555 111.
We continue to place updates on the work we are doing on our Social Media accounts. If you are on Facebook please follow us. On our Chester Police page we report on the activity we’re carrying out and have appeals for information relating to incidents that have taken place.
We utilise Residents Voice to identify the issues that are causing the public concern. As the survey is anonymous we try to feedback on social media the work we are doing to dela with these issues. Please continue to complete these surveys. Whilst it is called a Residents Voice survey, it is equally important we hear from those who work in the City, so this is open to everyone to complete. If you have completed it before, please complete it on a regular basis so we are kept up to date with the current issues that are causing concern.
The link to the survey is below, and should only take a few minutes to complete.
