Good afternoon,
Please find below this week’s City Centre policing update.
The City Team have carried out a plain clothes operation targeting retail crime in the City. The aim was to deter and detect those coming to Chester to commit business crime. This involved visits to several stores to liaise with security staff and was supported by Chester Against Business Crime. Positive feedback was received from staff at the stores, who believed the operation had deterred several attempts of theft. Officers also engaged with rough sleepers, again making them aware of the plain clothes presence in the city, which increases the deterrence factor.
We have been supported by officers from the Problem Solving team patrolling the City Centre. This is a team of officers who work with the Beat Teams and look to resolve issues by adopting a longer term problem solving approach. Some members of the City Beat Team, also attended the Forcewide Problem Solving conference, where they have taken away some good practice, that we will be reviewing to see if similar ideas can be adopted in the City.
Next week with the start of Chester Races, you will see an increase in Police resources, as we will be conducting Operation Plus before the meetings, with the intention of setting the tone in terms of behaviour and engaging with the public attending the meetings to ensure they are kept safe and behave appropriately. We often see an increase in street drinkers when the Races take place, with people positioning themselves by cash points to beg, this is something we will also be deterring. After the meeting, additional officers will be patrolling to police the night time economy. We will be working with British Transport Police to ensure the safe arrival and departure of those visiting Chester via the rail network. .
Project Servator has deployed at various locations in the City again today providing a visible presence.
We continue to deploy as part of Operation Momentum, with support of Forcewide resources.
I’m looking forward to seeing some of you next Tuesday for the multi agency walkabout, where we can outline the operations we are planning for the summer.
Below is a link to Residents Voice, which is a survey which allows you to tell us about the things you would like us to focus on in your area. Whilst it is called Residents Voice, this is also open for Businesses to complete which is something I would encourage. I know this has been circulated before but it can be completed by people again, as many times as they want, as the issues may change and it’s important that the results are current.
