City Centre Policing Update 15th Augusr 2025

Good morning,

This week we have continued to carry out patrolling in the City, supported by a range of units from across the force.

We have carried out a Pop Up Police Station at the Chester Bus Interchange so we can engage with the members of the public using the facility. It also provides visible presence at the location.

There were some instances of anti social behaviour in the City on Thursday, as such I authorised a Dispersal to be in place to provide officers with an additional power to intervene in incidents at an early stage and disperse individuals who are behaving badly. This can prevent offences been committed and deal with the behaviour at an early stage, demonstrating that such conduct will not be tolerated. A male was arrested as a result of breaching the Dispersal that had been issued.

On Thursday a Closure Order was granted in relation to an address in the City Centre, where there have been instances of anti social behaviour and drug activity. Such orders are obtained after an  evidence gathering process before a court hearing, where the evidence is presented and any objections can be made. This order will be in place for a period of three months which will prevent further criminality taking place. This will be the twenty first Closure Order that has been granted in the Chester Local Policing area in the last eighteen months.

We anticipate a busy weekend in the City with warm weather and large foot fall. Chester Pride will also be taking place tomorrow, and we will have a police presence in the City to ensure a safe and enjoyable event. As I usually do when we have large events or anticipated busy weekends I have authorised a Dispersal for the City from 1530hrs today until 1530hrs on Sunday. Officers have been briefed to take positive action  at an early stage in relation to any criminality or anti social behaviour, a is our usual stance.

We are significantly increasing the use of Neighbourhood Alerts as a means to update the community in terms of crime prevention advice and policing activities that are taking please. We are able to direct these to particular groups or location. Please can I ask that you promote registration for this amongst your networks.

We continue to place updates on the work we are doing on our Social Media accounts. If you are on Facebook please follow us. On our Chester Police page we report on the activity we’re carrying out and have appeals for information relating to incidents that have taken place.

We utilise Residents Voice to identify the issues that are causing the public concern. As the survey is anonymous we try to feedback on social media the work we are doing to dela with these issues. Please continue to complete these surveys. Whilst it is called a Residents Voice survey, it is equally important we hear from those who work in the City, so this is open to everyone to complete. If you have completed it before, please complete it on a regular basis so we are kept up to date with the current issues that are causing concern.

The link to the survey is below, and should only take a few minutes to complete.

From today I will be on leave for the next two weeks so I’m afraid there wont be updates coming out until I return.

Kind regards,
