Minutes of previous exec meeting
The minutes were agreed and approved
Matters arising from Previous Minutes
- Mike has spoken with Ruth Cullis, who helped with the clean up of the Drill Hall Gardens
- The Albion’s loss of Community Asset Status – this is still pending, awaiting Christina’s decision
- Moving Traffic Offences – The process of the Council taking over powers from the police has gone to consultation. Sam Dixon has asked for an ANPR in Park Street
- Wheelie Bins – confirmation that wheelie bins are not permitted at any house with access onto a road in the BERA area
- Graffiti– James Morris, who is responsible for community safety and is supported by Sam Dixon is mapping graffiti tags with individuals and will take action against them
- One City Plan – this is to be reviewed and relaunched in the Autumn. Mike is to meet Richard Beecham and will report residents’ general dissatisfaction with Council
- CRAG are considering putting forward a residents’ candidate at the next elections. Anne Farrell said it would be quicker to form a town council. Bill, however, said that the fact that councillors are being challenged should raise a red flag and may be all that is needed. Mike to report this back to CRAG.
Queen’s Jubilee Events
- It was generally felt that the events went well. Fiona thanked Jim for strimming the Drill Hall Gardens. The quiz at the Albion was well attended, with about 100 people, and the quiz was well received.
Future Social Events
- Fiona mentioned that Eddie was leaving the Albion on the 13th August and felt that BERA should recognise this. This was agreed and Mike is to talk to Christina about arranging something
- A social event at the Cross Keys in the Autumn was agreed on. Fiona to talk to Dave to arrange date
- Mike to sort out dates for Carol Singing and the 2023 AGM
- Possible social on Christmas Eve in the Albion
Drill Hall Gardens
Mike suggested we applied for it to be a community garden. Rebecca (Steele Street) has offered to coordinate planting. It was suggested that she is asked for rough costs, which could come out of BERA funds. It was also suggested that we apply to the Community Cashback Fund. Mike will ask the Police and Crimes Commisioner. Jim offered to strim the area once a month.
Dan asked if the Council could maybe erect CCTV if the community agrees to maintain the gardens.
Dan also suggested that before time and money is spent on the Drill Hall Gardens that we should first understand what sort of “tenure” CW&C might be able / willing to provide. Mike to explore.
A.O.B
- Dan pointed out that the no entry and no right turn signs in Park Street should be on both sides of the road to be enforceable
- The lack of superfast Broadband in certain house in the area was brought up. Mike to raise with One City Plan members
- 2900 people have signed a petition urging the Council to reconsider their decision to allow floating barbeque boats at the Groves. Chris Matheson has asked that the full Council discusses the proposal. Mike suggests that we wait until there is a licensing application and object to that.
- Bill complained about the state of the Walls, including rubbish and broken glass. It was generally felt that they are not being looked after properly, especially as they are such a tourist attraction.
