View in browserWelcome to my latest newsletter for residents of Cheshire. Since my last update, there has been plenty of activity from my office (the OPCC) and the Constabulary to support victims and prevent and tackle crime across the county. The OPCC has launched new and better ways of communicating with residents and secured even more funding to protect victims of Domestic Abuse. Meanwhile the Constabulary has seen progress made in key areas of the Police and Crime Plan, which led to my recent decision to extend the contract of Chief Constable Mark Roberts.
Don’t Get Fined Did you know that illegally dumped waste can lead to you being fined up to £5,000 – Even if you didn’t dump it? I’ve launched a new campaign with my Waste Crime Partnership to encourage residents to be vigilant when employing waste disposal companies.
DA Funding My office recently secured four successful funding bids – worth over £3 million – for projects to tackle domestic abuse and prevent reoffending. One of these projects has seen reoffending rates drop by over 80% where it has been tried.
Hidden HBA Victims Another project made possible by securing funding is my partnership with Savera UK to find and support hidden victims of ‘honour’-based abuse (HBA). We’ve launched a survey to find out what people already know about this subject, and we’re hosting a conference to bring all relevant partners together to help us in our work to root out HBA in Cheshire.
Community Funding My Community Action Fund closed at the end of June, but local groups will be able to apply again when it reopens in September. Take a look at the Community Funding page on my website to see how your area could benefit.
Contract Extensions Following recent crime statistics which showed Cheshire punching well above its weight, I took the decision to extend Chief Constable Mark Roberts’ contract until 2027. Deputy Chief Constable Chris Armitt has also had his contract extended.
PCC’s Review I’ve launched a new ‘Commissioner’s Review’. This is a quarterly update on the work of the OPCC and delivery of the Police and Crime Plan, as well as updates on the scrutiny process and the latest commissioning activity. It is available on my website, alongside local performance statistics.
Thank you for reading this latest update. For more news and information don’t forget to visit my website, and if there is anything I can do to help then please don’t hesitate to contact me via the details below. Best Wishes,John DwyerPolice and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire
