Chester City Centre Policing Update 17th May 2026

We believe that ‘Together, we’ve got it covered’, so we work with partners, including other police forces, businesses and the public, to continue to protect our streets and everyone who lives, works or visits here and to make it difficult for criminals and terrorists to operate.

Our officers will arrive unannounced at various locations. These patrols could last for different lengths of time and involve varying numbers of officers.

You’ll see, as a minimum, uniform and plain-clothes officers, but we might also include officers from other departments such as dog units or armed officers, depending on our specific requirements.

We might also work with British Transport Police at transport hubs or Aviation Police at airports.

Officers will talk to the public, local businesses and private security staff to let them know what they’re doing and remind them to be vigilant, trust their instincts and report any suspicious or unusual behaviour.

You may also see posters on display boards and officers handing out leaflets explaining more about Project Servator.

Project Servator’s patrols are highly visible, but if you see our officers in your area, there’s nothing to be concerned about. It’s normal police activity and isn’t linked to any specific intelligence about a threat to the area

.

Working with the community is a vital part of making Project Servator a success, so if you have any questions, please feel free to talk to our officers.

You have an important role to play in helping to keep our streets safe by reporting anything that doesn’t feel right, for example, an unattended item or someone acting suspiciously.

You’ll never get into trouble for reporting a genuine concern and we’ll always take your report seriously.

If you see something suspicious, please tell a police officer, use our online form to tell us about possible terrorist activity, or call the confidential Anti Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321. If it’s an emergency, always call 999.

You’ll find more information on what to look out for and how to report it at ACT (Action Counters Terrorism).

Here is a video providing further explanation. You will probably recognise some of the locations and officers who feature in the video Bing Videos

Community Protection Notices

This week, we have issued a further three Community Protection Notices to individuals who have been causing problems in the City. These are an effective tactic to deal with such behaviour. We have issued a number of these recently, in particular to one group who have been causing issues at a particular location and it is hoped that the issuing of such notices has had a positive effect at the location.

Shop Visits

Working with the Western Exploitation Team and Trading Standards, the City Beat Team took part in an operation to tackle the sales of illegal tobacco. A number of premises were visited resulting in 11,040 cigarettes, 2.6kg tobacco and 68 vapes being seized as part of this operation. Such proactive visits will continue to take place to disrupt this activity and associated criminality. We have a strong partnership network across a number of agencies who work together on such operations.

Police Surgery

We  had a Police Surgery at Chester Cathedral, which enables residents and businesses to attend to discuss any issues they are experiencing that we can assist with. Such events are published on our Neighbourhood Alerts, along with a range of other information. You can register to receive Neighbourhood alerts by following this link. Home Page – Cheshire Alert

Operation Sceptre Week

Next week will be Operation Sceptre Week, which tackles knife crime. Whilst knife crime isn’t a major issue in Chester, we want to keep it that way, so have a range of activities planned which I will update you on next week.

Social Media

We place updates on the work we are doing on our Social Media accounts. If you are on Facebook please follow us. On our Chester Police page we report on the activity we’re carrying out and have appeals for information relating to incidents that have taken place.

Residents Voice

We utilise Residents Voice to identify the issues that are causing the public concern. As the survey is anonymous we try to feedback on social media the work we are doing to dela with these issues. Please continue to complete these surveys. Whilst it is called a Residents Voice survey, it is equally important we hear from those who work in the City, so this is open to everyone to complete. If you have completed it before, please complete it on a regular basis so we are kept up to date with the current issues that are causing concern.

The link to the survey is below, and should only take a few minutes to complete.
