Chester City Centre Weekly Policing Update 17th April 2026

This week we have carried out various policing activities in the City. This has included high visibility patrols supported by our colleagues from Force wide teams including the Roads Crime Unit and Armed Response Vehicles. This provides a visible presence to detect and deter crime as well as reassurance to the public who live, work and visit the City.

On Wednesday we carried out a Police Surgery at The Storyhouse, which enabled officers from the City Beat Team to be present to speak to members of the public who attended to discuss any issues they have. As I have mentioned previously we have very effective partnership networks in Chester to tackle crime and disorder. One such group is the Business Crime Reduction Partnership, who meet on a weekly basis to exchange intelligence and share crime prevention advice. This network also has an effective City Link Radio system, which again is key to detecting crime.

There were some incidents of anti social behaviour in the City involving street drinkers, in order to proactively tackle this issue a Dispersal was authorised which resulted in a male being excluded from the City for a 48 hour period. which provides additional powers to officers to exclude people causing or likely to cause crime and disorder in the City for a period up to 48 hours. The use of this legislation demonstrating that such behaviour wont be tolerate by dealing with it at an early stage before it escalates, and also builds evidence that can be used to obtain Community Protection Notices or Criminal Behaviour Orders.

As a result of some outstanding work by one of the CCTV Operators, officers located and arrested two males who were responsible for a number of thefts across the City. These have included shop thefts, vehicle thefts and a number of thefts from person including mobile phones and purses. A significant team effort took place across a number of Chester Local Policing Unit teams to secure the required evidence, which resulted in them being charged in respect of 15 offences. This was an excellent result to demonstrate the excellent CCTV network we have in place, with proactive observant operators, working closely with officers from Chester Local Policing Unit to tackle criminality. These incidents are also a timely reminder to warn people in your networks that such offences take place and to be alert to people standing close to them or attempting to open their bags or remove items from their pockets.

We continue to place updates on the work we are doing on our Social Media accounts. If you are on Facebook please follow us. On our Chester Police page we report on the activity we’re carrying out and have appeals for information relating to incidents that have taken place.

We utilise Residents Voice to identify the issues that are causing the public concern. As the survey is anonymous we try to feedback on social media the work we are doing to dela with these issues. Please continue to complete these surveys. Whilst it is called a Residents Voice survey, it is equally important we hear from those who work in the City, so this is open to everyone to complete. If you have completed it before, please complete it on a regular basis so we are kept up to date with the current issues that are causing concern.

The link to the survey is below, and should only take a few minutes to complete.
